Flying impostors

Following up on my previous post “bees and butterflies”, here are some more photos I took this summer of what are in fact flies. They are sneaky little buggers as they pose as bees. This is a natural defense you see in a lot of different species.

These flies are commonly called hover flies, besides bee-imitators there are also hover flies that go for a wasp look.
