Cancer survivor, autist, all-round geek…
Yep, cancer survivor. Since age 11 (1995) as healthy as I can hope for. I’m not one to complain and I do not plan to make this part of my life the focus of this blog, or my future life for that matter. Of course it was all tears and sad faces at the time and I can not deny it is an important part of my life, but one should not dwell on neither the past nor the negative. I understand how people can be effected by cancer and how research may benefit from increased awareness, but to be brutally honest I am terribly annoyed by the amount of cancer driven attention-leaches you get in the media these days. We are glad for you because you survived / We are sorry for your loss. Cross out which applies and get on with your life…
Autistic too? Yeah, that is still pretty new for me too as you can read here. It is hard to explain and because I cope quite well with the difficulties associated with an Autism Spectrum Disorder it is something that most people do not notice (at first). This is an aspect of my life which I think will become more significant in the future, something I plan to write about when the time comes.
Geek? Well look around the site, pretty self explanatory isn’t it? Must of my interests are borderline geek at best, basement/attic troll at worst. My take on these things is: If I like something and if I’m able, I will eventually do/learn/buy it. Life is too short for regrets!
As for my job? It’s pretty much in geek domain too. I have a part-time job in Eindhoven for 2 days a week, the rest of my income is earned through a two-man company I started with a co-alum after graduation. Both jobs consist of designing and programming websites, these days primarily using (X)HTML, CSS and PHP.
That’s me in a few paragraphs, and about everything I can think to write now. My intention for this blog is to share my insights and interests, but you might find a lack of new posts from time to time. Don’t worry, I will still be around but life must be getting in the way.
How do I email you if I have a plugin problem?
hoi marijn, ik heb je plugin voor social media sharing geinstalleerd. De facebook ‘Send’ valt van de pagina af. Dus geen send of cancel buttons. Ik ben geen programmeur (anders zou ik dit waarschijnlijk al gefixed hebben). Hi, I’ve been using the Social Sharing Toolkit on mine and also some of my client’s websites but since last week it has caused IE 9.0.5 to freeze or load incredibly slow (when I deactivate the plugin it loads fine). Using the debugger in IE 9 it seems be caused by the facebook link. Could you please look into this and perhaps fix what needs to be fixed?
